The Ducal Palace of Mantua is one of the main historical buildings of the city. It was the official residence of the lords of Mantua, the Bonacolsi, the main residence of the Gonzagas, lords, marquises and finally dukes of the Virgilian city.
The Ducal Palace has recently inaugurated the new museum itinerary: a connection that 130 years ago allowed Duke of Gonzaga to attend religious services from the rooms of the palace to his private gallery in the church of Santa Barbara.
Along the way, a new set-up was created with religious paintings and liturgical vestments, duly restored, dating back to the Gonzaga era and realized between the 16th and 17th centuries with sumptuous fabrics and precious embroideries made by Italian and French manufacturers.
The mannequin wears a white coat with Venetian lace, a red silk dalmatics and an Italian XVII-XVIII century manufacturing chasuble, in red silk satin with silver thread embroidery.
The exhibition was edited by R.T. Textile Restoration (www.restaurotessile.it).
